Retail Licence

dicentra can walk you through the application process—from the very start to license approval.

Cannabis retail license holders are the only legal retailers of cannabis products in Canada. As a cannabis retailer you may only sell licensed cannabis products affixed with an excise stamp, obtained from one of Health Canada’s licensed producers. Licenses for cannabis retail are issued by provincial licensing bodies and subject to provincial licensing requirements.

At this time Ontario has put a hold on issuing retail licenses until further notice. Citing supply issues, the provincial government directed the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) to place a hold on applications after issuing an initial 25 licenses to parties selected through a lottery selection process.

We expect to have an update on the next phase of Ontario retail store applications by December 2019.

At this time, there are a few provinces and territories in Canada still accepting retail applications. Contact us to discuss the opportunities that exist across Canada for cannabis retail.
